Notes & caveats

  • Vehicles are counted where they are registered (owner's address), on 1 January 2026. Cars and motorcycles that are temporarily deregistered (e.g. over winter) are not in the stock.
  • Our calculation: vehicles ÷ population on 31.12.2025 × 100,000. East = the five eastern states without Berlin.
  • Only motorcycles with official number plates are in KBA's stock. Mopeds on insurance plates (Versicherungskennzeichen), which include most 50 cc Simson models such as the S51 and the Schwalbe, are not counted, so the true number of Simsons on the road is much higher.
  • Simson built two-wheelers in Suhl (Thuringia) until 2002, so the count includes some post-1990 machines.
  • 11 Simsons are registered under "Sonstige" and are not assigned to a state.
